ST. LOUIS REGIONAL JOB GROWTH CONTINUES FOR 38th CONSECUTIVE
MONTH, WITH YEAR-OVER-YEAR JOB INCREASE OF 16,000 JOBS
ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis regional economy again continued to expand in September, according to employment estimates released on Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as non-farm employment rose to 1,377,300. This is an increase of 1.2%, or 16,000 jobs, compared to September 2006 -- the 38th consecutive month of year-over-year job growth in the St. Louis region.
Growth in the professional & business, educational & health, and leisure & hospitality sectors offset year-over-year employment declines in the manufacturing and information sectors.
While a softer national economy is a backdrop for future job growth, prospects for the St. Louis region remain quite strong.
"Thanks to the continued active positioning of the St. Louis region through the St. Louis: Perfectly Centered, Remarkably Connected brand, economic development prospects continue to be very strong," noted St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA) President and Chief Executive Officer Richard C.D. Fleming.

"There are presently 89 prospects considering greater St. Louis expansions and relocations, amounting to some 17,000 potential jobs, and just under $4 billion in potential capital investment. The business-to-business regional brand has generated over 192 million positive media impressions on St. Louis (with one-third of those impressions through "earned media" and two-thirds from advertising) since the brand roll out in March 2006," Fleming added.
This includes outstanding national stories and advertising prominently featuring the St. Louis brand message in USA Today, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Detroit News, Boston Globe, National Public Radio, XM radio, Chief Executive, Bloomberg Markets, and Area Development magazines, and others.
The RCGA is the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for the 16-county, bi-state St. Louis region.
